Terapeak Advanced Features eBay Research

📍 You are here: Part 17 of 50+ — eBay Product Research: Complete Masterclass

In this guide you will learn: Terapeak Product Research vs Sourcing Insights · Year-over-year trend data · Category-level analysis · Advanced filters

Terapeak: Two Tools in One

In Post 11, we covered Terapeak's basics — the sell-through rate lookup, average price, and total sold count. But Terapeak actually has two distinct modules that most sellers don't know about:

  • Terapeak Product Research — keyword/product search with demand and competition data
  • Terapeak Sourcing Insights — category-level trend analysis with demand vs supply gaps

Both are free inside eBay Seller Hub. But Sourcing Insights requires an active eBay store subscription to access.

Module 1: Terapeak Product Research (Advanced Use)

Beyond the basic sell-through rate lookup, Terapeak Product Research has several advanced features:

Advanced Filter Set

Terapeak Advanced Filters

Date Range
7 days / 30 days / 90 days / 1 year — longer ranges reveal seasonal patterns
Listing Type
Fixed Price only / Auction only / Both — isolates professional sellers from casual listings
Condition
New / Used / Refurbished — each condition has its own demand profile
Item Location
US / UK / EU / Australia — different markets have different demand for the same product

Year-Over-Year Trend Data

Set the date range to 1 year and Terapeak shows you a month-by-month graph of total sold units and average price. This reveals:

  • Seasonal peaks — a product that spikes every November is a seasonal gift item
  • Long-term decline — a product whose sales have been falling for 6 months may be losing relevance
  • Stable evergreen demand — flat, consistent sales month over month = reliable niche
Key Insight: A 1-year view in Terapeak tells you what a 30-day snapshot never can — whether demand is growing, stable, or dying. Always check the trend, not just the current number.

Module 2: Terapeak Sourcing Insights

Sourcing Insights is the hidden gem of Terapeak that most sellers completely ignore. It works at the category level rather than the product level — showing you where demand exceeds supply across entire eBay categories.

What Sourcing Insights Shows

  • High-demand, low-supply categories — where buyers are searching but sellers aren't listing enough
  • Search-to-listing ratio — how many searches a category gets vs how many active listings exist
  • Trending categories — categories gaining search volume this month vs last month

How to Use Sourcing Insights Strategically

Navigate to: Seller Hub → Research → Sourcing Insights

Browse the top categories by Search to Listing Ratio — high ratios mean buyers are searching but sellers aren't listing. These are potential opportunity gaps.

Click any category to drill down into subcategories. Find the specific subcategory with the highest gap, then use Product Research to find specific items within that subcategory.

Terapeak vs Third-Party Tools

The main advantage of Terapeak is that it's eBay's own data — there's no scraping, no estimation, no data lag. The numbers come directly from eBay's database.

The limitation is the interface: Terapeak shows you sell-through data but doesn't calculate profit margins, doesn't show supplier prices, and doesn't provide the kind of instant opportunity score that ZIK or AutoDS do.

Best practice: Use Terapeak for macro research (which categories are trending, what's the average price) and ZIK or manual sold listings for micro validation (is this specific product worth listing).

Action Step

Go to Seller Hub → Research → Sourcing Insights right now (it's free). Find the top 3 categories with high search-to-listing ratios. Drill into each subcategory. Write down the top 2 subcategories with the biggest supply gap. Then use Terapeak Product Research on keywords from those subcategories to validate specific products.
